The genetic system has moved to a number system, allowing for much more flexibility, and you never have to 'start at 0' with things. You can keep multiple 'bases' to speed up breeding, but usually you can get what you need in two or three generations...IF you like math puzzles. The math is not super complex, you have a preview before any point of no return with hatching eggs, and there is a predictor that helps you with multiple generations of planning (to make sure it works like it does in your head!

I still need to gather a bunch of mushrooms and plan things out to get the perfect set of numbers--and sometimes need to plan out several generations in a row!--so the effort still feels rewarded. It is more of an 'active' breeding system than past games. Less waiting, less RNG, more gameplay.

You can press space to ribbit and nearby frogs will ribbit back. Not sure what else the game does but definitely worth a try if that's your thing.

Mudborne is being created by ellraiser, one half of the indie-dev studio, TNgineers. A spiritual successor of sorts to APICO, Mudborne instead focuses on genetic manipulation and generational puzzles to create and discover all sorts of frog species, with experimentation being encouraged.
